Global Leadership Conference Recap

My sixth consecutive year at Global Leadership Conference met all my expectations and more. It was empowering and fulfilling to spend a weekend surrounded by successful and hard-working women and it was inspiring to be around young girls who want to change the world.

Here’s a list of things I did and people I met:

  • I was reunited with some of my best friends from Girl Scouts and familiar conference faces!

  • I helped the CEO of Girl Scouts of Green and White Mountains carry cookies into the building before realizing it was her.

  • I saw five new international Girl Guides get their American Girl Scout pins.

  • I listened to a presentation from an incredible Girl Scout Alumna who earned her Gold Award at age 15- An award that is normally won at 17 or 18.

  • I listened to a keynote from a conference alumna who has been working to reform the U.S. criminal justice system, specifically relating to prison conditions in the South.

  • I attended an adult workshop with an alumna of my troop about getting young girls involved in STEM.

  • I hung out with the Children of one of the long-time graduates of my Girl Scout troop from Connecticut. She later texted me that her daughter said she wanted to be a Girl Scout for the first time ever.

  • I helped staff and information table about the colleges that would be represented in the college panel.

  • I learned about climate change from a climate science specialist, who encouraged us to push for changes in our lives and communities.

  • I moderated two student workshops, one of which was run by my best friend about comedy improv.

  • I listened to a keynote from a Unicef representative about how we can participate in activism as young people.

  • I represented Simmons in the college panel!

  • I gave a keynote about my adventures in China and the challenges of going to a country where you can’t speak the language.

  • I joined the entire conference in an empowering “Scout’s Own” closing ceremony where we highlighted the key takeaways from the weekend.

My next few posts will focus on interviews with some of the participants and keynote speakers of the conference, so keep an eye out for those!
